Sustainability

Sustainability is a way of life at Swiss Climate. As climate consultants, we hold ourselves to the same standards that we set for our clients: transparently recording emissions, consistently reducing them and effectively managing them. We also consciously integrate sustainability into our daily work and at our various locations: from the design of the working environment and mobility to the organisation of internal and external events.

Our goal is to continuously reduce greenhouse gas emissions per employee in the long term. To this end, we systematically measure our emissions, identify potential for reduction and implement targeted measures. Our credo: reduce where possible and address residual emissions in appropriate climate protection projects.

Our carbon footprint

Swiss Climate compiles an annual carbon footprint for its own office operations. This forms the basis for our internal sustainability management and makes progress and areas for action transparent.

In the 2024 balance sheet year, total emissions amounted to 8.5 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents for 36.8 full-time equivalents, which corresponds to 0.2 tonnes of CO₂ per employee. Compared to the previous year, emissions were significantly reduced: –26% in absolute terms and –34% per FTE. The most significant emission drivers included heating, capital goods and employee commuting.

The carbon footprint covers Scope 1, Scope 2 and key categories of Scope 3 and follows the same methodological standards that Swiss Climate also applies in its customer consulting. Based on the identified hotspots, measures are prioritised, implemented and continuously reviewed.

Dealing with residual emissions and climate protection projects

Residual emissions that cannot currently be avoided in operations are addressed as part of a clearly defined climate protection strategy. The entire 2024 balance sheet is covered by selected, high-quality climate protection projects:

  • 1 tonne of CO₂ from the ‘Biochar in Switzerland’ project (CO₂ removal)
  • 8 tonnes of CO₂ from the ‘Wind project in Bulgaria’ project

Swiss Climate thus combines consistent emission reduction in its own operations, supports climate protection projects with measurable impact and invests in the development of negative emissions.

Further measures

Beyond CO₂ accounting, Swiss Climate implements further concrete measures to holistically anchor sustainability in everyday business life:

  • Preparation of event balances for larger events such as the Climate Breakfast in spring and the Soirée Climatique in autumn, in order to make emissions transparent at events and derive reduction potential.
  • Promoting biodiversity in our own business, for example by greening the roof terrace at our Zurich location with wild bee-friendly lavender.

We understand sustainability as a continuous process, in our daily activities, at all our locations and throughout our entire value chain.
